Arne Slot believes it’s “unrealistic” to expect Chelsea to not play through the Liverpool press after suffering a last-minute defeat at Stamford Bridge.
The Reds lost for the third time in the space of a week as Moises Caicedo and Estevao Willian scored either side of a Cody Gakpo strike to secure a massive victory for the hosts.
Arsenal have now overtaken Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table after the Gunners beat West Ham United earlier in the day.
Arne Slot makes ‘unrealistic’ Chelsea comment as Liverpool lose
“Another disappointing loss that’s clear,” Slot said in his post-match press conference. “Similar to the Palace game, although a little different. In the first half, we didn’t play our best football but we created three big chances; they created one.
“In the second half, we created more than enough to score more than one.
“In the last 10, it was end-to-end. Both teams could have won it. We didn’t, Chelsea did.”
Chelsea exploited spaces in Liverpool’s defence throughout the game, and their winner was the culmination of a back-to-front move.
“Yeah, there are gaps,” Slot admitted. “If you play like we play and the style they play. But it’s no surprise that both teams will play through the press.
“They had a lot of injuries but still had players to bring quality from the bench. It’s unrealistic to expect them not to play through the press.”
