Espirito Santo’s exit from the Ciyy Ground was confirmed on Monday evening, amid rising tensions between the Portuguese coach and boardroom.

The 51-year-old had been a popular figure among the fans at Forest, having led the club to a top-seven finish and European qualification last season. Forest will compete in Europe for the first time in three decades this season.

The Athletic are reporting that Postecoglou will take the reins ‘imminently’ with the Australian set to lead Forest for their trip to Arsenal in the Premier League on Saturday.

Postecoglou is set for an instant return to the Premier League after being sacked as Tottenham Hotspur manager in the summer.

The 60-year-old led Spurs to the Europa League last season, ending a 17-year wait for a major trophy, but was sacked after a disappointing 17th-place finish in the Premier League. It was the club’s lowest league finish since last being relegated from the top division in 1977.
