Amorim makes Man Utd transfer admission ahead of January

Ruben Amorim has admitted that some of his players may look to leave Man Utd in the January transfer window due to a lack of gametime in a World Cup year.

The Red Devils have precious few midweek fixtures due to no European football and their elimination from the League Cup at the hands of Grimsby Town in August.

That has reduced the amount of playing time for some members of the first-team squad as the United manager has little need to rotate his starting lineup.

The likes of Kobbie Mainoo and Joshua Zirkzee have both been linked with loan moves after finding themselves on the periphery of Amorim‘s plans. Neither player has started a game in the Premier League this season.

“I don’t know what is going to happen,” Amorim said ahead of this weekend’s clash with Nottingham Forest. “A lot of things can happen, even in our club.

“You know that we have the World Cup, some players are not playing, they will ask to leave, so I have to manage everything.”

Amorim also admitted that he had doubts about his future as he approaches the one year anniversary of his appointment as Man Utd boss. The Portuguese tactician had struggled to string together positive results, but they are currently enjoying their best run of form since he replaced Erik ten Hag last November.

“It’s hard to say that. Sometimes, in some moments,” he said. “There were some moments that were tough to deal with, to lose so many games. That was so hard for me because this is Manchester United.

“The position that we had in the last year, putting all the attention on the Europa League and not winning. That was massive. I had some moments that I struggled a lot and I was thinking that maybe it’s not meant to be.

“Today is the opposite. So you can write this one. Today I feel and I know that was the best decision in my life. I want to be here but for that I need to win against Nottingham Forest.”

United have won their last three matches on the bounce and five of their last seven in the league.
