Chelsea receive £17m compensation package from Man City

Chelsea have received £17m in compensation from Manchester City following Enzo Maresca’s appointment at the Etiahd.

Maresca has signed a three-year deal at Manchester City to replace Pep Guardiola as the club’s new manager. The Italian’s appointment comes after his resignation at Chelsea last December, amid reports of interest from City in their former coach.

As a result, Chelsea have demanded a compensation package and an agreement has now been reached. According to Ben Jacobs, that figure is £17m, the third-most expensive compensation fee ever for a manage.

Maresca has issued a public apology to Chelsea over the events that surrounded his exit, admitting his regret at the disruption his resignation caused.

“The decision was only mine. My resignation from Chelsea opened a path for me to join Manchester City, which is a club I knew very well. I am ecstatic that I have now joined Manchester City.

“I recognise that my departure from Chelsea in the middle of the season caused disruption for the club and I apologise for that. It was neither my intention nor my wish.”
