Jordan make their FIFA World Cup debut this summer, joining Cape Verde, Curaçao and Uzbekistan as the four tournament newcomers.
The Al-Nashama qualified by finishing second in AFC third-round Group B, behind South Korea. They edged out Iraq, Oman, Palestine and Kuwait in the process. A 3-0 victory over Oman, paired with Iraq’s loss, sealed the historic ticket.
Jordan reached the AFC Asian Cup final in early 2024, falling to hosts Qatar at Lusail Stadium. Two years on, they take that momentum onto the world stage for the first time. Moroccan coach Jamal Sellami confirmed his 26-man squad on 2 June. Captain Ehsan Haddad, the 32-year-old Al-Hussein defender, marshals a domestic-heavy spine.

Star forward Mousa Al-Tamari leads the attack as Jordan’s primary creative weapon. The Rennes winger, nicknamed the ‘Jordanian Messi’, scored seven goals and 11 assists in 36 club appearances last season. He added seven more in Asian qualifying.

Al-Sailiya’s Ali Olwan, the third-highest scorer across all AFC qualifying rounds with nine goals, returns from injury. Striker Yazan Al-Naimat misses out after an ACL injury sustained at last December’s Arab Cup.
Sellami’s tactical blueprint draws on Morocco’s celebrated run to the 2022 semi-finals. The team typically deploys a compact 3-4-2-1 that becomes a 5-2-3 out of possession. The Jordan boss has openly urged his players to emulate the Atlas Lions’ shock heroics. Final preparations include a friendly against Colombia on 8 June.
Group J pits Jordan against Austria, Algeria and reigning champions Argentina. The opener against Ralf Rangnick’s Austria in Santa Clara represents their most winnable test. Lionel Messi and Argentina await on the final matchday in Dallas.
