‘Incredible group’: Glasner vows to finish Crystal Palace reign with silverware

Oliver Glasner has said he wants to end his tenure at Crystal Palace with another trophy and praised the club’s ‘incredible group’.

Glasner will leave Crystal Palace at the end of the campaign, but is first focused on Europa Conference League success.

The Eagles take a 3-1 lead into the second leg of their semi-final against Shakhtar Donetsk on Thursday night, with the club closing in on another major final. Last season, Palace won the FA Cup to secure the first trophy in their entire history.

Ahead of their semi-final showdown with Shakhtar, Glasner said he is relishing the occasion.

“If I’m not excited for a game like tomorrow, it would be the wrong job for me. We love to be involved,” he said at his pre-match press conference.

“If you lose this excitement, it would be a clear sign to retire.

“I told the players today that I am really enjoying being part of this incredible group.

“What they have done for Crystal Palace is incredible. I can’t mention it often enough. The fans want honey again. They won’t be happy with avocado.”

Despite their healthy lead, Glasner is aware of the threat Shakhtar will pose. He warned his side about the Ukrainian side’s pace and ‘good dribblers’ as the Eagles look to avoid a second-leg collapse.

We could see how good Shakhtar is. Quick players, good dribblers. We will need another great performance. But of course we play the game with a lot of confidence.

“At Selhurst we know we will have a lot of fantastic support from our fans. We could feel it against Fiorentina and believe it will be even more electric tomorrow.

“I told the players the best thing is we know what to do. We don’t need to change a lot. It’s really about playing on our best level.”
