Manchester United believe Kobbie Mainoo can become one of the best players in the world after handing the midfielder a new contract.
Mainoo has signed a new contract with the Red Devils that will run until 2031. The 21-year-old has made 98 first-team appearances for the club since his debut, scoring seven goals, including the winner in the 2024 FA Cup final.
He’s also won 12 caps for England and is pushing for a place in Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad this summer, following a return to prominence.
Having struggled for minutes under Ruben Amorim, Mainoo has featured prominently under interim boss Michael Carrick.
At the announcement of his new deal, director of football Jason Wilcox predicted Mainoo will become one of the world’s top players.
“Kobbie is one of the most naturally gifted young footballers in the world,” Wilcox said.
“His technical ability, dedicated professionalism and humble personality make him the perfect role model for our young players and a true credit to our outstanding Academy system.
“We are delighted that Kobbie has extended his stay here and have full confidence that he will develop into one of the best players in the world, ready to play a pivotal role in a Manchester United team challenging for the biggest honours.”
