Manchester United in no rush to make decision on Carrick future

Manchester United are in no rush to make a decision on Michael Carrick’s future, but the caretaker’s impressive reign has strengthened his case for the permanent position.

Carrick has guided Manchester United into the Champions League places since replacing Ruben Amorim in January, winning seven of his 10 games in charge.

The 44-year-old has claimed wins against Arsenal, Manchester City and Aston Villa during that run with United now well positioned to claim a place among Europe’s elite.

The club’s board have been impressed by his performances but will weigh up all options before naming a permanent manager.

However, Sky Sports have reported that United are yet to open talks with any other potential candidate in an apparent boost to Carrick’s chances.

Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada are understood to be in no rush to make a decision while results remain positive.

If a decision is made not to appoint Carrick, United will target a manager with ‘stature and experience’.

Options are believed to include Julian Nagelsmann, who is expected to leave his role with Germany in the summer, Roberto De Zerbi and Gareth Southgate.
