Carrick backs £74m signing to become a ‘big player’ for Man Utd

Michael Carrick believes that Benjamin Sesko has what it takes to become a “big player” for Man Utd following his winning goal against Everton.

The Slovenia international came off the bench to score the only goal of the game at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Monday night to move the Red Devils back into the top four of the Premier League table.

Sesko endured a tough start to life at Old Trafford following his £74 million transfer from RB Leipzig. It took him nine games before he found the mark, but he has now scored six goals in his last eight appearances.

Despite his exception form in front of goal recently, he has not started any of the last five games for Man Utd. Carrick says the striker needs to be patient while he develops his game, but believes he has a bright future ahead of him.

“He’s in a good place at the moment,” he told Sky Sports after the final whistle. “We’ve had some really good talks about it. Patience is one thing from him. Waiting and developing as a player here.

“He understands that. He’s going to be a big player for us for a long period of time, I’m sure of that. We’ve got to manage that. We’ve got some top forward players. He’s made a big difference for us when he is on the pitch.”
