Vitor Pereira has warned that he ‘cannot change a lot’ at Nottingham Forest as the club bid for Premier League survival.
Pereira has been appointed as Forest’s new head coach, following the dismissal of Sean Dyche. He inherits a Forest side sat 17th in the Premier League table and just three points above the drop zone.
Pereira has become Forest’s fourth permanent manager of the campaign, a new Premier League record in a single season. He reunites with Evangelos Marinkais, having worked with the Greek owner at Olympiacos.
Asked what impact he can make, Pereira was keen to temper expectations at the City Ground.
“I cannot change a lot in this moment of the season, it’s about to put the players comfortable playing in the roles I’m demanding,” Pereira said.
“It’s important he players feel they can help the team with their qualities.
“It’s important they express themselves.”
The former Wolves boss was also asked about the message he has had for the players. He urged he Forest squad to ‘buy in’ to his ideas.
“The conversation was about – if you buy the idea, it’s a good step,” he continued.
“If you don’t buy the idea of the manager it’s a big problem you must buy the person, if you buy the idea and the person it’s an open mind to receive information and to work hard together.”
