‘Nobody liked him’ – Ex-Chelsea striker criticises former boss Conte

Diego Costa has claimed that ‘nobody liked’ former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte during his time at the club.

Costa was a key performer during Conte’s debut season at Chelsea, scoring 20 goals in 35 games as the West Londoners won the Premier League title.

Despite that form, Costa was informed by Conte that he did not feature in the club’s plans for the following season, as Chelsea spent £58m to sign Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid.

He was eventually excluded from the squad, before a deal was reached for Costa to re-join former side Atletico Madrid in January 2018.

Costa did not make an appearance for Chelsea cross the first six months of the 2017-18 season, after being frozen out by Conte, and the forward’s ill-feeling towards his unceremonious exclusion has remained.

Speaking to ex-Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel on The Obi One Podcast, Costa criticised Conte and said ‘nobody’ at Chelsea enjoyed working under the Italian.

“He is a person who doesn’t trust others. He thinks he knows everything,” Costa said.

“You don’t enjoy training with him; he’s always angry, always with a long face. The players wanted me to come back, but nobody liked him, and that’s why he didn’t last long.”
