The five favourites to sign Antoine Semenyo in January

Antoine Semenyo is a name that’s set to dominate the January transfer window, with clubs lining up to sign the Bournemouth winger.

A release clause of £65m can be activated in the early part of the transfer window, and it’s expected to be triggered. Semenyo’s fine form this season has attracted interest, with the 25-year-old having scored eight goals and provided three assists.

But which sides are leading the chase for his signature? We’ve looked at how the bookmakers view the race to sign Semenyo.

Antoine Semenyo: Next club odds

Tottenham Hotspur – 14/1

Tottenham Hotspur are long-term admirers of Semenyo and enquired into his availability in the summer. Spurs instead swooped to sign Mohammed Kudus and Xavi Simons for a combined sum in excess of £100m, but remain keen on Semenyo to complete a new-look frontline.

The North Londoners are willing to offer the winger a lucrative deal, but their mixed start under Thomas Frank – sitting 14th in the Premier League – makes them outsiders despite the carrot of Champions League football.

Arsenal – 14/1

Like their North London neighbours, Arsenal like Semenyo, though the addition of a winger is not at the forefront of plans for January.

Mikel Arteta has Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard, Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze, who can all operate from Semenyo’s preferred position off the left. According to reports, a summer move is possible, but it’s unlikely he’ll still be available by then.

Manchester United – 10/3

Manchester United are ‘pushing hard’ to sign Semenyo as Ruben Amorim looks to improve his squad. Last summer’s acquisitions of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo brought in proven Premier League talent, with the athletic capacity to thrive in Amorim’s system.

Semenyo, it appears, is another who fits the bill. It’s understood that the in-demand Bournemouth winger is viewed as a potential wing-back option for United, in a similar move to the one that has seen Amad Diallo converted into a deeper position.

Amorim wants goal threat from his wing-backs, something neither Patrick Dorgu nor Diogo Dalot are currently offering.

Manchester City – 11/4

Manchester City are second-favourites to sign Semenyo. Pep Guardiola is not short of wide options in his squad, but doubts over the immediate futures of Oscar Bobb and Savinho have seen City enter the race.

The former is an option to leave on loan in January, given a lack of first-team football this season.

Semenyo’s ability to cover all frontline positions, alongside homegrown status, appeals to the Citizens.

Liverpool – 6/4

Liverpool are looking at Semenyo, who has a history with sporting director Richard Hughes, the man behind the deal that took the winger from Bristol City to Bournemouth three years ago.

Despite investing more than £400m on new signings last summer, Liverpool failed to sign a direct replacement for Luis Diaz, following his move to Bayern Munich.

Cody Gakpo has had an inconsistent season so far, and Semenyo’s speed and power would add a different dynamic to the Dutchman. With Mohamed Salah’s future up in the air, Liverpool could seal a player who can cover multiple roles for Arne Slot’s side.

It remains to be seen whether the Premier League champions trigger his clause, given the need for reinforcements in central defence.
