Arsenal are prepared to make an initial €60m offer to sign Real Madrid winger Rodrygo in January.
The North Londoners were linked with Rodrygo in the summer as the 24-year-old suggested he was open to an exit. Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur also checked in on the player’s situation, which has not improved under new head coach Xabi Alonso.
Rodrygo has started just twice this season, totalling only 255 minutes of La Liga football. He is now keen to explore his options to ensure he is in top condition for next summer’s World Cup in North America.
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Arsenal are ready to launch a bid. The Gunners are set to approach Real Madrid with an initial €60m (£52.8m) offer, with a further €20m (£17.6m) in ‘achievable’ performance-based add-ons.
Arsenal invested in their creative options in the summer, spending around £105m on Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke, in addition to the signing of centre-forward Viktor Gyokeres. However, Rodrygo’s reported availability and interest in leaving Real Madrid has opened up a market opportunity that Mikel Arteta is keen to explore.
The Brazil international has scored 68 goals in 283 games for the Spanish side and has won three La Liga titles and two Champions League trophies among his honours.
