Barcelona announce return to Camp Nou stadium

Barcelona have confirmed the club will make their long-awaited return to the Camp Nou this weekend.

The Spanish side last played at their historic home venue in May 2023, with the ground having undergone a transformative redevelopment project.

Barcelona had hoped to complete the project by November 2024, to coincide with the club’s 125th anniversary, but have been struck by several delays.

Though there remains work to be done to complete the stadium, their La Liga fixture against Athletic Bilbao will be played at the venue, with a reduced capacity.

Barcelona have confirmed the news in an official statement, which said: “FC Barcelona informs that the match corresponding to matchday 13 of the League, against Athletic Club, scheduled for Saturday, November 22 at 16:15 hours, will finally be played at Spotify Camp Nou.

“This decision comes after obtaining the first occupancy license corresponding to Phase 1B, which allows increasing the capacity up to 45,401 spectators. This authorization includes the entire Lateral area and adds to the license already granted for Phase 1A, which covers the Tribune and South Goal.

“The Club continues working on Phase 1C to guarantee the resumption of activity in the North Goal, gathering all operational, security, and comfort conditions for members and fans.

“Regarding the UEFA Champions League, the Club is working jointly with UEFA to be able to play the match against Eintracht Frankfurt at Spotify Camp Nou, since the necessary requirements are met, although confirmation is still awaited.”
