Chelsea are one of the teams considering an approach for Julian Alvarez, after intermediaries suggested the Atletico Madrid forward is open to a transfer.
Alvarez has emerged as one of Europe’s best forwards since joining Atletico from Manchester City in an £82m deal in 2024. After struggling for an automatic role in the Premier League, due to the presence of Erling Haaland, the Argentine has flourished in La Liga.
Alvarez has scored 38 goals in 72 games for Atleti, and his performances have not gone unnoticed across Europe.
As Atletico struggle to keep pace with Real Madrid and Barcelona in La Liga, intermediaries are understood to have informed suitors of his interest in a move.
Barcelona are considering Alvarez as a long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski, while Paris Saint-Germain are also monitoring his situation.
However, transfer journalist Graeme Bailey has refused to rule out Chelsea, who are considering an approach to bring the 25-year-old back to the Premier League.
“Julian Alvarez has quietly emerged as one of the best strikers in Europe. He has been very good for Atletico, outstanding even, but intermediaries are making it clear that he is considering his options,” he reported.
“Whilst Barca seems the most likely option for him — PSG and Chelsea are very much keeping close tabs on the situation. I am told that clearly Barca and PSG appeal to Alvarez, but don’t rule out a move to London with Chelsea.”
