Brighton travel to Selhurst Park on Sunday for the M23 derby, aiming to end a poor run of results against their arch-rivals.
The Seagulls lost both league meetings to Crystal Palace last season. Furthermore, they are winless in their last six away trips to their rivals (D5, L1). However, Fabian Hürzeler’s side will be well-rested for today’s challenge, as they have had a full week to prepare.
They secured an important 3-0 win over Leeds last weekend. Crucially, this result ended a two-game losing streak. A win in the capital today would be their third in a row in London. This is a feat they have only achieved once before in their history.
Brighton team news
Brighton manager Fabian Hürzeler has received a welcome defensive boost. He confirmed that Joël Veltman is fit again and available for selection. The return of the experienced defender is timely. Meanwhile, the team will once again look to their attack, led by the in-form Danny Welbeck. The veteran striker has been in sensational form, scoring six goals in his last five appearances. He will undoubtedly be the team’s key threat.
However, the manager is still contending with several other fitness issues. For instance, star winger Kaoru Mitoma remains a significant doubt. Hürzeler rated him “50-50” as he struggles with an ankle issue. The Seagulls will also be without Jack Hinshelwood, James Milner, and Brajan Gruda, as the club has confirmed all three are absentees for the match.
Brighton predicted lineup
Brighton predicted XI: Verbruggen; Veltman, Dunk, van Hecke, De Cuyper; Baleba, Ayari; Minteh, Rutter, Kadıoğlu; Welbeck
