Our Premier League Awards celebrate the best – and worst- of the weekend a’s top-flight action.
Moment of the Week
Harry Maguire. It has been some Remontada.
The Manchester United defender has suffered as a scapegoat, becoming a meme machine on social media, a removal as captain, and nearly being forced out of Old Trafford. Yet, he’s still going, delivering another moment that will not be forgotten in a hurry with a late winner at Liverpool.
Following last-gasp goals against Porto and Lyon in Europe last season, Maguire produced another at Anfield. United had not won at Liverpool in the Premier League for almost a decade, while the Red Devils had never claimed back-to-back league wins under Ruben Amorim – until now.
Harry Maguire’s last six Man United goals:
– 84th minute winner vs Liverpool
– 89th minute equaliser vs Grimsby
– 121st minute winner vs Lyon
– 47th minute winner vs Ipswich
– 93rd minute winner vs Leicester
– 91st minute equaliser vs PortoWhen he scores, it’s clutch. pic.twitter.com/4VVCbNtXw5

Maguire’s moment changed both of those statistics and continued his transition from chastised to clutch. The mental strength he has shown is truly something.
Player of the Week
Brighton have been praised for unearthing gems over the past decade, but one of the club’s best pieces of business has been the free transfer signing of Danny Welbeck.
The Seagulls snapped up Welbeck as a 29-year-old free agent from Watford in 2020, offering the forward an initial one-year deal. He’s just celebrated five years on the south coast with a match-winning double to down Newcastle United at The Amex Stadium.

The veteran had the best goalscoring season of his Premier League career last season and has already notched four in eight games this time around. Brighton’s recruitment focuses on young talent but the 34-year-old is the perfect example for their fledglings to follow.
Goal of the Week
What a way to score your first Premier League goal.
Loum Tchaouna put the finishing touch on a big Burnley win, as the Clarets conquered Leeds United at Turf Moor in a relegation six-pointer. A special strike from the summer signing.

Save of the Week
Harry Maguire’s header will take the headlines for Manchester United, but there were excellent performances across the pitch for Ruben Amorim’s side. Among them, Senne Lammens, who built on an impressive debut against Sunderland with another assured outing.
Anfield offered a baptism of fire for the young Belgian but he handled the heat, including a huge save from Alexander Isak to protect his side’s 1-0 lead in the first half. Eye-to-eye with British football’s most expensive signing, Lammens came out on top.
Miss of the Week
For Jean-Phillipe Mateta to leave the pitch ‘upset’ after scoring a hat-trick, it goes to show his frustration at a late blunder.
Mateta had scored three times for Crystal Palace in their bonkers 3-3 draw with Bournemouth, including a 97th-minute penalty to equalise.
However, the Frenchman had a late, late chance to win it. Eddie Nketiah squared the ball in the final seconds, only for Mateta to blaze over the bar with the goal gaping.

A decisive fourth goal in the final seconds would have sealed one of the Premier League’s all-time great individual performances for Mateta. He’ll have nightmares about this one.
Stat of the Week
Ah, mate.
The axe fell on Ange Postecoglou this weekend as Nottingham Forest’s winless run extended to eight games in all competitions. Having dived back into Premier League management after his sacking at Spurs, the Australian never got going as the Forest squad struggled with the style shift.
His 39 days in charge might just make a movie…
39 – Ange Postecoglou spent just 39 days in charge of Nottingham Forest, the shortest managerial reign of any permanent Premier League manager to leave a club during the season. Steps. #NFOCHE pic.twitter.com/bCaszJLXe4

A week to forget for…
Mohamed Salah. Liverpool’s long-time talisman is enduring the worst streak of his career with the club and produced another poor performance in defeat to Manchester United. He awkwardly spooned a brilliant chance wide, to make it seven successive games without a non-penalty goal.
Amid a raft of issues for Arne Slot, Salah’s struggles are right at the top. Is this just a dip for the PFA Player of the Year? Or the start of an eventually inevitable age-driven decline?
