The favourites to be the next Premier League managerial exit

Erik ten Hag became the first managerial casualty of the Premier League season this week with the Dutchman dismissed at Manchester United.

The Red Devils are languishing in 14th in the table after their worst-ever start to a Premier League campaign, with last weekend’s loss at West Ham condemning Ten Hag to the sack.

His exit comes despite winning silverware in each of his first two seasons, though a lack of Premier League progress and questionable recruitment led to his undoing.

There will be plenty of talk ongoing in other Premier League boardrooms as clubs evaluate their starts to the season. Who will be next to press the panic button and demand change?

Using odds from Eagle Predict, we’ve ranked the favourites to be the next Premier League manager to leave their role.

The favourites to be the next Premier League manager to leave.

Oliver Glasner – Crystal Palace (9/1)

Few predicted Oliver Glasner would be under pressure after last season’s exploits. The Austrian overhauled Crystal Palace following his appointment in February, leading a charge up the table. He won six of his final seven games of the 2023/24 to spark cautious talk of a European push this time around.

Palace, however, have stumbled out of the traps. The sales of Michael Olise and Joachim Andersen have been felt and the Eagles opened the season with an eight-game winless run. Beating Spurs last time out to record their first win of the season has eased some of the scrutiny on Glasner.

Thomas Frank – Brentford (8/1)

Thomas Frank is the fourth-favourite to be next to leave, though not quite for the same reasoning as others on this list. The Dane’s overachievement with the Bees has earned admirers and there might just be some contemplating prying Frank from West London.

Named as a potential option to replace Ten Hag at Manchester United, he looks set to miss out with Ruben Amorim appearing the first choice for Old Trafford.

Julen Lopetegui – West Ham (4/1)

West Ham’s change of direction has not worked out as hoped to date. David Moyes was replaced in the summer with Julen Lopetegui’s arrival supposed to usher in an exciting new era. Despite spending more than £130m on new signings in the summer, the Hammers have fallen below expectations to date.

Just three wins from eight games has left the East Londoners 13th in the table, short of pre-season expectations of another push for European qualification.

Gary O’Neil – Wolves (3/1)

Wolves sit second bottom of the Premier League and are one of three sides yet to record a win in 2024/25.

Gary O’Neil’s team have taken just two points from their first nine games, though the fixture list has been cruel with Wolves facing eight of the current top nine – and Newcastle – in a daunting start to the campaign.

A spirited comeback to draw at Brighton last weekend showed Wolves are still fighting for the manager, though results will need to improve quickly ahead of back-to-back home fixtures with struggling Crystal Palace and Southampton.

Russell Martin – Southampton (5/4)

Russell Martin is the favourite to be the next Premier League manager to leave his role.

The Saints are winless since promotion and have just a solitary point, with Martin’s adventurous brand of football having been dubbed naive in the top flight.

Pep Guardiola called Southampton ‘one of the best in the league’ at defending with the ball last weekend, but the club’s concession of chances when playing from the back has been punished in the Premier League.

Martin may need to tweak his tactics if the Saints – and he – are to survive.
