Why Real Madrid’s managerial appointment could be a boost for Manchester United

What a few weeks it has been. Whether it be the sensational events of the Champions League final in Kiev, Zinedine Zidane’s shock departure or the build up to the World Cup, there has certainly been no post season football lull.

The latest huge piece of news was Real Madrid’s appointment of Julen Lopetegui, and then his subsequent sacking by the Spanish FA after he failed to inform them of his negotiations with the European champions.

However, his appointment at the Bernabeu could turn out to be a boost for Manchester United, in particular their hopes of landing Gareth Bale.

Bale was the hero in last months Champions League final against Liverpool, coming off the bench to score one of the greatest goals in Champions League history, with that sensational bicycle kick. However the Welshman firmly put himself in the shop window with his post match comments, saying he would be sitting down with the club to discuss his future.

Bale spent a lot of time on the sidelines last season, with Zinedine Zidane seeming to prefer Spanish playmaker Isco for the big games as opposed to the former Spurs star.

Zidane’s resignation was seen as a boost for Bale’s chances of remaining in the Spanish capital, with Real Madrid President Florentino Perez keen to keep the 28-year-old at the club.

The appointment of Lopetegui though could push the 28-year-old back towards the exit door, with the now former Spain boss also seeming to have trusted Isco during his time as national team coach over the last two years.

The 51-year-old Los Blancos head coach will surely want to sit down with Bale before the start of the season, but if he does indeed plan to utilise Isco more predominately than the Welshman, then that will give Jose Mourinho a huge boost in his aim of luring the £86 million man to Manchester United this summer.
