Wenger confirms midfielder transfer

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Francis Coquelin will be leaving the club this.

Earlier this week, Wenger described the chances of the Frenchman leaving the club this month as ‘a possibility’ but insisted that nothing had been decided with regard to his potential destination.

However, speaking after Arsenal’s 0-0 draw in the Carabao Cup semi final, the Arsenal boss confirmed that the midfielder will be moving to Valencia.

“He goes to Valencia because he didn’t get enough games with us this season and he had an opportunity. I let him go,”

The 26-year-old only signed a new deal at the Emirates 12 months ago, but has been restricted to just seven appearances in the Premier League this season, including just one start.

The deal to take Coquelin to La Liga is thought to be worth around £11m, and will come as a blow to West Ham and Crystal Palace who have both been linked with having an interest in the midfielder in the last week.
