United legend slams teams lack of ‘personality’ and ‘character.’

Manchester United were embarrassingly dumped out of the Champions League last night, as Sevilla won 2-1 at Old Trafford in the second leg of their Champions League last 16 tie.

Jose Mourinho’s men seemed to lack any intensity or desire right from the first whistle. Sevilla striker Wissam Ben Yedder struck a second-half brace to punish United for a overly cautious approach during both legs.

Speaking after the game one of the Red Devils greatest ever defenders Rio Ferdinand slammed his former club’s current team for their lacklustre performance.

“They looked like a team thrown together, full of strangers,”

“They played with nerves, they played cautiously. In these games you’ve got to take it by the scruff of the kneck.

“That takes character, that takes personality. You’ve got to give the fans something to chant about. This stadium was quiet and that is down to the players.” He said.

Ferdinand was speaking to BT Sports after the game, and another United legend Paul Scholes was withering in his criticism of Jose Mourinho’s men, whilst also calling for the Portuguese manager to drop star signing Alexis Sanchez, after the Chile international put in yet another listless display last night.
