Man City face ultimate test in last 16 following Champions League draw

The Premier League’s four representatives have discovered their fate for this season’s Champions League last-16, with Premier League champions Manchester City facing Real Madrid in the pick of the knockout ties.

Pep Guardiola’s side will travel to the Bernabeu to face the 13-times winners in the first leg, before hosting the Spanish giants in the return fixture at the Etihad as they seek to win Europe’s biggest prize for the first time this season.

Holders Liverpool and Europa League winners Chelsea also face a difficult task in reaching the last eight, as the the European champions prepare to face Atletico Madrid in the first knockout round while the Blues will meet Bayern Munich in a rematch of the 2012 Champions League final.

Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur will also face German opposition in the form of Rasenballsport Leipzig, the Bundesliga side having qualified for the knockout stages for the first time in their history as group winners.

Elsewhere, tournament debutants Atalanta’s reward for reaching the last-16 is a tie with Valencia, and Paris Saint-Germain manager Thomas Tuchel faces a reunion with former side Borussia Dortmund.

Napoli will also meet Barcelona in an entertaining-looking clash, whilst Cristiano Ronaldo will continue his bid to lift the trophy with a third club when Juventus face French outfit Lyon.
