The Premier League’s Five most improved players

With the Premier League at it’s half-way point we thought it would be a good time to see which players have improved the most during this campaign …

Raheem Sterling – Manchester City

The 23-year-old has netted a sensational 13 goals and four assists so far this season for Pep Guardiola’s all conquering side.

No player at the Etihad has improved even close to as much as Sterling has this season, his movement and composure in front of goal so far this term is like night and day in comparison to previous campaigns.

He is on course to reach the landmark of 20 Premier League goals for the season, and it has not just been the quantity of goals the former Liverpool man has scored this season, but the importance of his strikes that have caught the eye.

In fact, he is not only his clubs leading scorer, but no player has scored more winning goals than the talented attacker.

Joe Gomez – Liverpool

Gomez joined Liverpool from Charlton in 2015 and although he impressed initially, a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to serious knee injury meant he headed into this campaign with many questioning whether he would make the grade at Anfield.

However, the 20-year-old has been nothing short of superb at right-back for Jurgen Klopp’s side, putting in a serious of solid and composed displays.

Although the cynics may point to the fact that it is relatively easy to be classed as Liverpool’s best defender this season, that should not take away from just how much the youngster has impressed.

His pace, power and ability on the ball have not gone unnoticed and he recently won his first England caps in the high-profile friendlies against Germany and Brazil.

James Tarkowski – Burnley

When Burnley sold Micheal Keane to Everton last summer many predicted The Clarets would soon be playing their football in the Championship again.

Sean Dyche obviously had faith in the man he had picked to replace the England international, and his faith has been handsomely rewarded.

As Keane has struggled to adjust to life at Goodison, Tarkowski has been a revelation with Burnley on course for their greatest ever season in the club’s history.

The 25-year-old former Oldham centre-back has won plenty of admirers with his no-nonsense defensive displays, and unsurprisingly ranks near the top of the Premier League tackle and clearance charts.

Andreas Christensen – Chelsea

Denmark international Christensen started this season as a relative unknown to most Premier League fans having spent the last couple of seasons on loan at Bundesliga outfit Borussia Mönchengladbach.

However due to injuries, suspensions and bust-ups the talented 21-year-old has been afforded a run in Chelsea’s team and has responded with a serious of top class displays.

Christensen oozes class and has been compared to Rio Ferdinand for his recovery pace and ease when in possession.

Antonio Conte rates him so highly that he recently predicted that he is a future Chelsea captain.

Demarai Gray – Leicester City

Having had to make do with a bit-part role at the King Power since his move from boyhood club Birmingham in 2016, the lighting-quick winger has finally been given the run in the team that his undoubted talent deserves by Leicester’s new manager Claude Puel.

Gray has grasped his opportunity with both hands, using his pace and skill to reek havoc on opposition defenses.

The 21-year-old winger has scored three goals in nine appearances for the Foxes this season, and has all the attributes required to have a long and successful career in the Premier League.
