Switzerland head to North America for the FIFA World Cup this summer with genuine ambitions of finally breaking through the quarter-final barrier that has long eluded them on the global stage.
Murat Yakin’s side went unbeaten through their UEFA qualification group, winning four of their six matches and scoring 14 goals in total to finish three points clear at the top of the standings, booking their place at the tournament with authority.
Having secured his job with a superb showing at Euro 2024, Yakin will be looking at Group B as an accessible path to the nation’s fourth successive knockout berth.
Captain Granit Xhaka leads the group for a fourth World Cup, with Manuel Akanji and Gregor Kobel anchoring the spine of the side.
Switzerland have been drawn in Group B at the tournament, with Canada, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Qatar.
