Sunderland target centre-back as they battle to keep Kone

Sunderland manager David Moyes has targeted the signing of Anderlecht defender Kara Mbodj as they face an uphill battle to keep hold of Lamine Kone.

Kone impressed at Sunderland since his £5million transfer from Lorient just six months ago, and is now a target for Moyes’ former club Everton. Sunderland have already knocked back one bid from the Toffees, who are expected to come back with an improved £18million bid for the defender, which could prove to be too good to turn down.

Moyes is now targeting the signing of Senegalese defender Kara Mbodj, who would cost the club around £8million.

The 26-year old was close to moving to West Ham one year ago, but the move broke down after he failed to obtain a work permit. However such issues should not arise this time around as he has gained the required number of International caps to secure the necessary paperwork.
