Trippier reveals injured Kane went ‘mental’ at Spurs at half time to inspire epic Champions League comeback

Kieran Trippier has revealed injured Tottenham forward Harry Kane went ‘mental’ at half time to help inspire the club’s epic Champions League comeback against Ajax.

Spurs booked their place in the Champions League final for the first time in their history on Wednesday night, after Lucas Moura’s 96th-minute goal secured the club’s progress on away goals.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side had trailed 3-0 on aggregate at half-time of Wednesday’s tie, before Moura’s stunning second-half hat-trick secured a miraculous comeback for the North London side.

Full-back Tripper has revealed England captain Kane was influential in the dressing room at half-time, having been left angered by the side’s first-half performance.

“Harry’s exceptional for club and country,” said Trippier. “I don’t know the timescale with his injury but obviously we’re all hoping he can be back because of his presence, even here.

“At half-time he came in and was going mental at us because we can do better, which we all knew, but this is what we need, the leadership he has.

“The way he came in at half-time and wasn’t happy, we all knew that.

“He just gives us that extra lift because his presence was massive for us.”
