Six Premier League strikers yet to score so far this season

Four fixtures into the new Premier League season and Manchester City star Sergio Aguero leads the early standings for the Golden Boot, though spare a thought for the forward’s still yet to open their account.

Several strikers are still awaiting their first goal of the new campaign, and each will be hoping to get off the mark as soon as possible after the international break.

We’ve decided to take a look at six player’s enduring a mini-drought in front of goal, with six Premier League strikers yet to score so far this season…

Christian Benteke – Crystal Palace

The Christian Benteke who terrorised Premier League defences during a prolific spell at Aston Villa now seems a distant memory, with the towering forward having looked a shadow of his former self in recent times.

The Belgian international is yet to score for Crystal Palace in four outings so far this season, whilst his record stands at a paltry four goals in his past 50 Premier League appearances.

Benteke enjoyed an impressive debut season after moving to Selhurst Park from Liverpool in 2016, though his form has drastically deteriorated since then and his confidence looks shot.

The 28-year-old will hope to open his account for the season as soon as possible, but whether Palace boss Roy Hodgson will be able to coax back the player who scored 49 goals in 101 Villa appearances remains to be seen.

Diogo Jota – Wolves

The Portuguese forward made a huge impression during Wolves’ return to the Premier League last season, the 22-year-old striking up a fine partnership in tandem with Raul Jimenez.

Whilst Jimenez has continued last season’s fine form with two goals in four games so far, Jota is still awaiting his first league goal of the new campaign.

It’s four goalless Premier League games so far for Jota, though Wolves fans will hope three goals in six Europa League games this season suggests his drought shouldn’t last much longer.

Moise Kean – Everton

Everton’s £29m capture of the former Juventus forward was seen as a coup for the Merseyside club, the 19-year-old having been regarded as one of Italian football’s brightest prospects.

The teenager, who has scored twice in three caps for Italy, has been integrated slowly by boss Marco Silva, making three substitute appearances and one start in the opening weeks of the new season.

Kean scored six goals in just 13 Serie A appearances for the Turin side last season, showing he can score goals at the top level, and Everton will hope their summer signing can open his account in England in the coming weeks.

Chris Wood – Burnley

The Burnley battering-ram has seen striker partner Ashley Barnes take the headlines in the early weeks of the new season, having seen his teammate hit four goals in as many games to spark talk of a shock England call-up.

Wood’s sole goal contribution this season has been at the wrong end, an unfortunate own goal against Liverpool last time out.

The New Zealand international is a fan’s favourite at Turf Moor and has registered double figures in each season since his move from Leeds, and the 27-year-old will hope to be on the scoresheet when Burnley travel to former club Brighton this weekend.

Che Adams – Southampton

Southampton’s summer signing is yet to register his first goal for the club, having so far struggled to replicate the prolific form he showed in the Championship with Birmingham City last term.

Adams has started each of Southampton’s opening four fixtures but is yet to find the back of the net, whilst he is also yet to complete a full 90 minutes.

The forward scored 22 league goals in the second tier last season and enjoyed an impressive pre-season for Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side, and the 23-year-old will be hope to open his account soon and prove he belongs at the highest level.

Glenn Murray – Brighton

Brighton’s over-reliance on the veteran forward for goals has been to their detriment in recent seasons, prompting the club to splash out £20m on Brentford’s Neil Maupay this summer.

Maupay got off to the perfect start with a debut goal in the win at Watford, though Murray has so far failed to replicate last season’s goalscoring form.

The 35-year-old has scored 25 Premier League goals over the past two seasons, but remains without a goal in the opening weekends of the new campaign.
