Sanchez signing has had a ‘negative impact’ according to Man Utd legend

It’s been almost four months since Alexis Sanchez arrived at Manchester United, but questions are still being asked about his influence at the club.

The Chilean of course made that heavily publicised move from Arsenal to United back in January, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan moving in the opposite direction. Since then, he has made 15 appearances for the Red Devils, but has scored just three goals, taking his total for the season to just 11, his joint lowest since 2010.

Not only have Sanchez’s personal performances been slated, but he has also seemingly had an affect on the rest of the Manchester United squad, with Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial most affected by his arrival.

The duo have seen their game time become much more restricted since the Chile internationals arrival, and when they have been afforded an opportunity such as at Brighton last Friday, they have been unable to recreate their early season form.

Now, Manchester United legend and former club captain Gary Neville has said he thinks the the United number 7’s arrival has had a negative impact at the club:

“If you look at the actual stats and you think about before Sanchez arrived at the club, they (Martial and Rashford) were playing quite a bit of football, they were scoring goals and contributing, they had assists,” said Neville.

“But since Alexis Sanchez has come to the club, obviously he’s played a lot of the games, and that’s what’s happened.

“There’s been a big impact negatively, so they’ve got to get back to the standards they were setting earlier in the season and what they’re capable of.”
