Roma have the option to sign Romelu Lukaku on a permanent basis for a fixed fee of £37m at the end of the season, following the forward’s impressive form since arriving on loan from Chelsea.
Roma signed Lukaku on loan during the closing stages of the transfer window and the 30-year-old has hit the ground running in the Italian capital.
Lukaku has scored seven goals in eight appearances in all competitions for Roma, having been informed he did not feature in the plans of new manager Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea.
Lukaku’s move to Roma has reunited the Belgian with former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho and the forward has opened up on his ‘special relationship’ with the Portuguese coach.
“As I have said in the past, the coach and I have a special relationship,” Lukaku said after scoring twice in the weekend win over Cagliari.
“He knows my family, he knows my children: he is someone I trust, as he has in me. He is also tough, as other coaches have been in the past, but it’s the only way I can grow as a player.”
Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Roma have an option to turn Lukaku’s deal into a permanent transfer, having agreed a fixed fee of £37m with Chelsea during the summer.
