Robin van Persie to return to former club

Robin van Persie is set to make true one of his promises by returning to one of his former clubs.

The 34-year-old is set to undergo a medical at former club Feyenoord according to reports in the Netherlands, where it is expected he will finish his career.

RVP left the Dutch side back in 2004 after scoring 22 goals in 78 appearances. He moved to the Premier League to for £2.75m where he joined Arsenal, with Arsene Wenger planning to convert him from a winger to a centre forward.

He made 278 appearances for the Gunners, scoring 132 goals, before controversially leaving to move to Manchester United in 2012 for the relatively cheap £22.5m.

He quickly repaid Sir Alex Ferguson’s investment in him, bagging an impressive 30 goal haul in 48 games and delivering Manchester United’s 20th League title, and most importantly, van Persie’s first.

However the retirement of Sir Alex saw Van Persie’s fortunes fade, with neither David Moyes nor Louis van Gaal seemingly knowing how to get the best out of him, and in 2015 he was sold to Turkish side Besiktas.

His influence has further dwindled in Turkey, making just 87 appearances in two-and-a-half years, including just four appearances this season, and he will now return back to the club where it all began, just like he promised.
