Premier League legend slams Mourinho for ‘destroying’ Luke Shaw

Former Southampton and Premier League legend Matt Le Tissier has revealed that left-back Luke Shaw should leave Man United this summer as he is being ”destroyed,” by his manager Jose Mourinho.

The 22-year-old defender became the world’s most expensive teenager when he moved to Old Trafford from Southampton for £30 million in 2014.

Shaw has however struggled to replicate the form he showed at St.Marys due to a combination of struggling with his heavy price tag and a series injury he picked up playing against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League in 2015.

The England international also seems to have a strained relationship with United boss Mourinho, with the Portuguese coach publicly criticising the youngster on several occasions over the last couple of seasons.

Shaw was substituted at half-time and publicly dressed down by his manager again this weekend after his sides 2-0 FA Cup victory over Brighton, prompting Le Tissier to suggest the only way he can kickstart his career again is to leave Old Trafford this summer.

“I think if Mourinho is still there then it is inevitable Shaw will leave this summer. I have no idea what he is trying to achieve. There is just a really strange relationship going on there and I don’t understand what he’s doing because he’s just destroying the player at the moment.

“I’m not sure if it was anything to do with him choosing Manchester United over Chelsea despite being a Chelsea fan when Mourinho was manager at the time. You also don’t know what happens at training or how he lives his life to give an accurate assessment but, while there are players that this sort of approach can work with, I just don’t think Shaw is one of them.”  he told Sky Sports.
