The 2024/45 Premier League season has been a rollercoaster of emotions from start to finish. There have been unexpected twists and turns, record-breaking performances, and plenty of dramatic storylines to keep everyone on the edge of their seats throughout what has been another exciting campaign in the top flight.
The highs and lows of the 2024/25 Premier League Season
Liverpool upset odds to win record-equalling title
Liverpool were expected to endure a season of transition but it has instead been one of triumph. The Reds clinched their 20th English top-flight title, equalling Manchester Unitedโs record, and finished the job with a commanding 5-1 win over Tottenham at Anfield.

Arne Slot has become just the fifth manager to win the title in their debut Premier League season and the first Dutchman to lead a side to the trophy. Despite a strong campaign last term before a late downturn, most anticipated a drop-off from Liverpool after the departure of Jurgen Klopp. Most online sports betting operators and football pundits expected a title tussle between Manchester City and Arsenal for the third straight season, but Liverpool left both sides in their wake. Slot built on the sound foundations he inherited to guide Liverpool to the league title, their first celebrated in front of fans since 1990.
Have Arsenal gone backwards?
For the third consecutive campaign, Arsenal are looking like the bridesmaid and not the bridge. The Gunners are second as things stand and could finish as runners-up once again. After points returns of 84 and 89 in the last two seasons, Arsenal can finish on a maximum of 76 in 2024/25.

Their league form has been impacted by a first run to the Champions League semi-finals since 2009, but an exit to Paris Saint-Germain means its a fifth successive season without silverware.
Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspurโs struggles
Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur started the new season in optimistic mood but each have endured disappointing domestic campaigns.
Manchester United are 15th in the table and guaranteed their lowest points total of the Premier League era. The Red Devils have not finished lower than eighth in the Premier League previously, while their last top-flight finish of 15th or lower ended in relegation in 1974.
For Spurs it has been a similar story. Ange Postecoglou has bemoaned an injury crisis, but there’s been little lift since the return on key figures. The North Londoners are 16th and heading towards their lowest league finish since 1977.
Both teams remain in the Europa League, which offers a chance to salvage their seasons and earn Champions League qualification. Incredibly, they could meet in a winner-takes-all final.
Southamptonโs historic relegation
Southamptonโs return to the Premier League is best described as short-lived. They were relegated in early April, after a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Spurs, marking the earliest relegation in Premier League history.
The Saints were relegated with seven games to spare and have only managed 11 points so far. They will officially be the joint worst team in Premier League history if they fail to add another. Derby County currently hold that record (11 points).

European qualification and other notables
The battle for the remaining Champions League places continues to be intense. Manchester City, Newcastle United, and Chelsea are all looking good right now. Nottingham Forest have wobbled at the worst time, but theyโre not down and out yet. Aston Villa are still hoping to make a late run. Chelseaโs late resurgence has been notable. A good start to the season was followed by a bit of a dip. Now theyโre back in the top five, and theyโve just defeated champions Liverpool 3-1.
Looking ahead to 2025/26…
As the season draws to a close, attention will turn to the summer transfer window. Goalscorers appear on the agenda for several top teams, with England’s elite likely to lead the way for spending once again. With the first-ever expanded Club World Cup over the summer and the prospect of SIX Premier League teams in the Champions League next season, the 2025/26 campaign could be one to savour.
Expect more drama, twists and turns, and gripping storylines next term.
