Pogba hints at Mourinho rift despite being made Manchester United captain

Just when you thought the situation surrounding Paul Pogba’s future was beginning to calm down, the midfielder has dropped a hint that all is still not right between him and Jose Mourinho.

The Manchester United midfielder is thought to have fallen out with the Jose Mourinho over the course of the last 12 months, after putting in a number of sub-standard performances for the Red Devils.

He was linked with a move to Barcelona last week, a move which could of course still happen with the transfer window in Spain still open until the end of August.

However, despite Pogba only returning to training last Monday, Jose Mourinho sprung a huge surprise on Friday night by not only starting the £89 million midfielder, but by naming him as his captain.

The United boss was full of praise for his star player following the game, describing him as a monster, but Pogba’s comments were much more intriguing, suggesting that he couldn’t say what he wanted to say without being fined.

While he said that he always gives his best, his choice of words were extremely poignant:

“There are things, and there are things that I cannot say, otherwise I will get fined,” he said after Manchester United beat Leicester in their Premier League opener.

“I always give my best for the fans, for the teammates and for the people that trust me.

“With the players that we have, of course we’re Manchester United, we have to look at the top of the league. That’s obvious.

“I mean, Manchester United, we have to show on the pitch, we have to play well, we have to be focused and we need people to trust us.”

While some will say that people are reading too much into it, Pogba’s choice of words are extremely interesting, picking out the fans, the team-mates and those that trust him, but crucially not Jose Mourinho.
