Mourinho lauds ‘phenomenal’ Alexis Sanchez

Jose Mourinho has described Alexis Sanchez as a phenomenal player as speculation persists about the Arsenal star’s future.

The winger has been linked with a number of clubs over the last few months, but that speculation has increased significantly in the last few days as we seemingly edge towards a resolution.

Long term admirers Man City were the first to make their move, lodging a £20m offer for the 29-year-old earlier this week. Reports also surfaced that the Cityzens has agreed personal terms worth £250,000-a-week with the player as the transfer looked to be getting closer.

Then on Thursday afternoon, it was reported that Manchester United had made a £25m offer for the forward, who is out of contract in the summer. Speaking in his prematch press conference, Jose Mourinho refused to clarify the reports, but did describe Sanchez as a phenomenal player.

“There are some players in football world if you have the chance to sign them in January, March or July, you have to try and that’s it but in relation to Alexis Sanchez I don’t say a word.

“The only word I can say is he is a phenomenal player, apart from that, Arsenal player, and I feel I shouldn’t say much more than this.”

Manchester City are thought to be reluctant to meet Arsenal’s £35m asking price, while Man Utd are thought to be willing to better personal terms on offer from the Blues too.

United last raided Arsenal back in 2012, signing Robin van Persie who went on to lead the Red Devils to the title in his first season at Old Trafford.
