Mourinho hails Pogba’s professionalism

Manchester United strolled to a comfortable 2-0 victory over Huddersfield at Old Trafford last Saturday in the Premier League. However, it was the benching of the club’s record £89 million signing Paul Pogba that dominated the headlines.

The France international had put in a poor performance in the Red Devil’s previous fixture, a 2-0 defeat away to Spurs. Many pundits and fans criticised Pogba for his lack of tactical discipline in that game, and his manager also was not too impressed judging by the fact he was omitted from the starting XI for last weekend’s game.

However, speaking to the press ahead of his sides away trip to Newcastle on Sunday, United’s Portuguese coach revealed that his star midfielder took the decision professionally when he said:

“Paul had a very professional behaviour,”

“This week was not different to what Paul is every week. He works well, he’s a good professional. He likes to train. I’ve never had a single problem with him. He likes to train.”

Despite returning to Old Trafford from Juventus 18 months ago, debate still rages over how exactly Mourinho is able to get the best of the talented midfielder.

Many believe he lacks the tactical and defensive discipline to play in a traditional midfield two. Although, Pogba is at the top of Premier League charts in terms of assists, key passes and touches, the general feeling is that he would be more suited to playing on the left of a midfield three like he did at his previous club Juventus.
