Merson predicts Arsenal’s top four hopes will be over after Chelsea game

Arsenal legend Paul Merson reckons his former sides chances of finishing in the top four will be all over after their fixture against Chelsea on Saturday evening at the Emirates.

The Gunners have hit a sticky patch of form in the Premier League lately and currently sit in fifth, six points behind Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea.

Merson reckons Saturday’s fixture is make or break for Unai Emery’s side, and he thinks it’s a test the Gunners will ultimately fail.

In fact, Merson believes Arsenal may even be better off focusing on winning the Europa League in order to qualify for next seasons Champions League.

‘Arsenal have to win this game otherwise it’s all in for the Europa League, which may actually help as they can then concentrate on that competition as they’ll be out of the top-four race.’ Merson told Sky Sports.

‘There’s no way they can balance both – the squad isn’t strong or big enough.

‘I fancy an away win.
