Pogba reveals personal motivation to win World Cup final

It hasn’t been the easiest seasons for Paul Pogba, but the midfielder has revealed why he is ultra motivated to finish on a high by winning the World Cup.

The Manchester United midfielder returned to Old Trafford in 2016 for a then World Record fee of £89 million, but has divided opinion ever since, having shown flashes of brilliance but not really fully justifying his price tag.

However, during this summer’s World Cup, he has looked like the player that United fans want to see week-in, week-out, with even Jose Mourinho praising his ‘mature’ performance against Belgium in the semi-final .

He has looked like he is really being allowed to express himself in Didier Deschamps’ France team alongside N’Golo Kante and Blaise Matuidi, and he is now just one game away from guiding his country to World Cup glory for just their second time in Les Bleus’ history.

Sunday’s final in Moscow against Croatia is a repeat of the 1998 semi-final, with Croatia wanting revenge for their defeat 20 years ago. Ahead of the game the Manchester United midfielder said:

“Croatia do not have stars [on their shirt] – they want one. They have done very well and they want the victory, like us,” Pogba told a pre match press conference.

“But I do not have a star. It’s on the shirt, but I did not win it. We want to go looking for it like all players. It will be a World Cup final, a great match, difficult.”
