Manchester United ‘offered’ PSG star after UEFA’s FFP demand

Manchester United have been offered the opportunity to sign PSG midfielder Marco Verratti this summer according to reports in Italy.

United have already agreed deals to bring in two players this summer, with a deal for Brazil midfielder Fred and Portugal U21 full-back Diogo Dalot already having been confirmed.

However, despite Fred’s imminent arrival at Old Trafford following this summer’s World Cup, Jose Mourinho could be forced to further strengthen his midfield should Marouane Fellaini decide to let his contract expire and leave the club for free at the end of this month.

Manchester United have been linked with a number of midfielders in recent months, including Toni Kroos, Jorginho, Jean Michel Seri and Marco Verratti.

News yesterday broke that French Champions PSG have been told to balance the books by the end of June, meaning they could be forced into accepting some cut-price deals for some of their star players.

Having signed Neymar for £198m, and committing a further £166m to sign Kylian Mbappe, the Parisiens now need to raise at least £53 million by the end of the month in order to comply with UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations. According to Italian outlet Calcio Mercato, they have notified United of Marco Verratti’s availability, with the Italy international claimed to be unhappy in the French capital.

According to the report Verratti believes he has been unfairly treated at the club and is looking for a new challenge in the summer.

It is suggested the 25-year-old is upset after meeting with new manager Thomas Tuchel and being told he needed to lose weight ahead of pre-season.
