Manchester United defender rejects Everton transfer

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has rejected the chance to sign for Everton this summer.

The former Southampton defender moved to Manchester United back in 2014, becoming the first signing under Louis van Gaal’s reign at Old Trafford.

He was widely expected to develop into one of the best left-backs in the world but has seen his career stall, falling behind 33-year-old converted winger Ashley Young in the pecking order as Jose Mourinho’s first choice left-back.

Shaw, who has often had questions raised about his mentality and physical fitness, has returned to pre-season training and looks in the best shape of his life – recently sharing photo’s on social media of the training he has been doing in the off season.

The Portuguese manager has reportedly made Shaw available for transfer, with Spurs, and Southampton having being linked, but according to The Times, Shaw has turned down the chance to move to Everton in a bid to save his Old Trafford career.

New Everton boss Marco Silva is desperately trying to rebuild the Toffees ageing squad, with left-back one of the positions in need of strengthening.

While long-term servant Leighton Baines is still the number one left-back at Goodison Park, at 33, his powers down the left flank are starting to wane.

Everton have also failed in a bid to sign Celtic’s Kieran Tierney, while Barcelona’s Lucas Digne is also thought to be a target.
