Man Utd choose to sell Van de Beek in order to sign Sofyan Amrabat

Man United have made some fantastic signings this summer, but Erik ten Hag still has one area of the field he wants to improve before the transfer window closes: his midfield.

Mason Mount, who was formerly at Chelsea, has already been signed by the Dutch coach. In the coming weeks, Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek may also leave Old Trafford.

The Premier League’s biggest clubs will make a play for Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat, who is Ten Hag’s first pick for his next midfield acquisition, after the Manchester club completes one more sale.

The 26-year-old midfielder has drawn attention from Real Sociedad, and a transfer of his would allow United to get Amrabat from Fiorentina.

On the other hand, Van de Beek signed up with the Red Devils in 2020, the year Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over as manager. However, the Norwegian manager never gave him a fair shot.

The Netherlands national team midfielder was a star at Ajax while being coached by Erik ten Hag, making him a serious prospect in the DraftKings Sportsbook. Unfortunately, the 19-cap international played only two Premier League games last year and spent the bulk of his time on the treatment couch.

There is no real need to hang onto Van de Beek now that Ten Hag has signed a creative CM in Mason Mount, therefore it is not surprising that he has been placed up for sale.

Fabrizio Romano said on the most recent edition of the Debrief podcast that once the problem with Van de Beek is resolved, Man United may move quickly to sign Amrabat.

He said: “Man United want to complete more outgoings before making an official bid for Amrabat so they keep working on the Donny van de Beek deal with Real Sociedad. From what I am told, they are still discussing a deal with Man United for Van de Beek.

“They know the player wants to go there, Van de Beek is open to the opportunity to play in another country and to have regular game time, which he is not going to have at Man United after many injuries.

“After they clarify the situation of Van de Beek, they will enter into concrete talks for Sofyan Amrabat. It could be in the next few days as Man United have already at discussions with the player’s side since the end of June/beginning of July, receiving very positive feedback with Amrabat keen on the move. It is now on the clubs.”
