Man United receive green light to sign record-breaking Arsenal wonderkid

Man United have reportedly been given the green light to sign promising teenager Chido Obi-Martin from Arsenal.

The Red Devils were one of several clubs linked with the 16-year-old over the summer when it became clear the forward would be leaving the north London outfit.

Obi-Martin turned heads last season when he scored ten goals for the Gunners under-16’s team in a 14-3 win over Liverpool. He also scored seven goals against Norwich City, five versus West Ham, and four in meetings with Crystal Palace and Fulham for the under-18s.

Man United had reportedly agreed a deal to sign the prolific youngster from Arsenal in July, but the player had to train away from Carrington while he waited for the move to be ratified.

The club have now “received Premier League approval” to complete the transfer, according to the Manchester Evening News. Obi-Martin will be officially unveiled as a Man United player and line out for the under-18 and under-21 sides.

The transfer is considered a “significant coup” and the club believe he has the “potential” to eventually break into the first team.

Who is Man United transfer target Chido Obi-Martin?

Chido Obi-Martin was born in 2007 in Glostrup, on the outskirts of Copenhagen, before moving to England as a teenager.

He joined Arsenal from Danish team KB in 2022, since when he has impressed at underage level.

The forward scored 29 goals in 17 league matches for the under-18s, smashing Folarin Balogun’s record of 25 goals in a single campaign for Arsenal in that age group.

Obi-Martin has represented both Denmark and England at youth level, although he is also eligible to play for Nigeria.

He played in Denmark’s 2024 UEFA European Under-17 Championship qualification campaign, scoring twice in three group stage games.
