5 longest-serving Premier League players who are still regulars in the first team

Crystal Palace goalkeeper Julian Speroni was recently handed his first Premier League start of the season in his 15th year at Selhurst Park. The 39-year-old joined the Eagles in 2004 and has made over 400 appearances in all competitions.

Speroni is the longest-serving player in the Premier League, but he’s no longer a first-team regular, so we have identified the longest-serving Premier League players who are still making appearances on a weekly basis.

Honourable mentions

  • Julian Speroni – joined Crystal Palace from Dundee FC in 2004 and has made 401 appearances. He’s spent 14 years, six months and nine days at Selhurst Park and is out of contract next summer.
  • Phil Jagielka – joined Everton from Sheffield United in 2007 and has made 380 appearances. He’s spent 11 years, six months and 22 days at Goodison Park and is out of contract next summer.
  • Leighton Baines – joined Everton from Wigan Athletic in 2007 and has made 409 appearances. He’s spent 11 years, five months and 15 days at Goodison Park and is out of contract next summer

Coleman joined Everton from Sligo Rovers in 2009 and has made 277 appearances in all competitions for the Toffees. The 30-year-old remains a first-team regular ten years later, making 18 Premier League appearances this season.

He’s still one of the better right-backs in the division and has a contract at Goodison Park until 2022. Given Everton paid only £60k to procure the Irish international’s signature a decade ago, there isn’t a better value-for-money signing in the top-flight.

Vincent Kompany (Manchester City) 10 years, five months

Kompany joined Manchester City from Hamburger SV in 2008 and has gone on to make 348 appearances in all competitions for the Sky Blues, winning three Premier League titles, three League Cups and one FA Cup.

The Belgian international was for a long time regarded as one of the best defenders in the Premier League and cost City just £7m. And despite his injury woes in recent years, Kompany has still made 14 appearances this season.

Aaron Ramsey (Arsenal) 10 years, six months, 22 days

Arsenal signed Ramsey from Cardiff City in 2008 and the Welsh international has gone on to make 358 appearances in all competitions. Ramsey cost the Gunners only £5m and remains a key player ten years later, making 27 appearances this season.

The central midfielder is out of contract next summer and is set to sign for Juventus. He’s been a terrific servant for the Gunners and will be missed by players, the staff and supporters upon his departure at the end of the season. Ramsey is the sixth longest-serving player in the Premier League and is only 28 years of age.

Danny Rose (Tottenham) 11 years, five months, 28 days

Rose was signed by Tottenham from Leeds United in 2007 and has made 177 appearances in all competitions. The 28-year-old wasn’t a regular for Spurs upon his initial arrival – spending time on loan at Watford, Peterborough, Bristol City and Sunderland – but he’s gone on to become one of the best left-backs in the Premier League.

Rose has made 16 appearances for Tottenham this season and is contracted with the Londoners until 2021. He’s been with Spurs for more than 11 years which could turn into 14 if he sees out the remainder of his deal with the Lilywhites.

Mark Noble (West Ham United) 14 years, 21 days

Noble is the only player on the list who rose through the youth ranks to the first-team of his respective club and spent his entire career there. The 31-year-old has spent more than 14 years at West Ham, making 453 appearances in all competitions for the Londoners, and he remains a regular to this day.

Noble has made 18 Premier League appearances for the Hammers this season and is club captain too. The midfielder signed a new deal with West Ham in December 2018 until 2021, which could mean he leaves the club with more than 16 years under his belt.
