Joe Hart reacts to England World Cup snub

Joe Hart has taken to social media to express his disappointment at being left out of Gareth Southgate’s England squad for this summer’s World Cup.

Hart has essentially been dumped down to fifth choice goalkeeper, with Jack Butland, Jordan Pickford and Nick Pope being given their seat on the plane to Russia, with Tom Heaton the man on standby.

Hart has been the first choice keeper throughout the entire qualifying campaign, only for Jordan Pickford to be given the gloves in the recent friendlies.

He was one of the high profile names to miss out on the England squad, along with Jack Wilshere, Adam Lallana and Chris Smalling. He has now provided his thoughts on Gareth Southgate’s snub:

“Not going to lie, I’m gutted,” he wrote on Instagram.

“After 2 years of trying to make the most of a really tough situation, this is hard to take.

“I’m proud to have put in the graft and play every minute to qualify with team, and have a rally important input in that outcome. I know what I bring to the team, but it is what it is.

“Good luck yo the team out there, the players know that even though I won’t be there, I will have my England shirt in as a fan this time and supporting all the way.

“No fear, go smash it. Three Lions and proud”

While officially still a Manchester City player, Hart has spent the last two seasons away from the Etihad on loan at Torino and West Ham. But despite being given regular football, he has made a number of high profile errors.
