Why Alexandre Lacazette is the answer to Arsenal's problems!

Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Lyon centre forward Alexandre Lacazette for £52 million. The Frenchman is Arsenal’s second signing of the summer after Sead Kolasinac and is the Gunners’ record signing. Here is why he the answer to Arsenal’s problems.

GOALS IN NUMBERS

Lacazette is just 26 and a forward who is always hungry for goals. If Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Özil were to stay at Arsenal, Arsenal would have an attacking force no Premier League team would want to face. The 26-year-old started off as a winger for Lyon. But ever since he has moved to the centre forward position, he has been a regular goalscorer for Lyon.

The Frenchman has scored 129 goals in 275 appearances for Lyon. He has never scored less than 22 goals in a season since switching to the centre forward position. He scored 37 goals in 45 appearances last season which is very impressive, 28 of which came in the Ligue 1. No striker has scored more goals than Alexandre Lacazette in the Ligue 1 in the last 3 seasons.

FINALLY A TOP STRIKER

Arsenal have had goalscoring problems at times, with Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck not being the kind of strikers Wenger expected them to be. Arsenal’s downfall in the 15/16 season was a major highlight of it, when striker Olivier Giroud went 17 games without a goal.

What Lacazette will offer, is the clinical finishing up front, that Arsenal have lacked recently. Also, Arsene Wenger will now have options up front, with Lacazette, Giroud, Welbeck and Alexis to choose from.

Lacazette’s goal tally will also depend a lot on Mesut Özil. If the German playmaker and the French striker understand and link up with each other in no time, Arsenal fans will have some really enjoyable weekends of football to watch. Arsenal haven’t had a better striker at the club since the departure of Robin van Persie.

WORTH THE WAIT

Arsenal have had interest in Lacazette for a long time. The first time Arsene Wenger enquired about Lacazette, was 10 years ago, when he was 16. Wenger has had a close eye on him ever since.

Arsenal have now gone three summer transfer windows being linked to Lacazette, before finally signing him today. Arsenal had a £39 million bid rejected for the Frenchman last summer as well.

Atletico Madrid were the favourites to sign Lacazette this summer as a replacement for Antoine Griezmann. But they suffered a transfer ban which prevented Lacazette’s move to join Simeone’s men. Atletico Madrid were even offering more money for the striker than Arsenal are.

MORE ARSENAL TARGETS

Also on Arsenal’s radar, are Thomas Lemar and Riyad Mahrez. Riyad Mahrez is more likely to join Arsenal, as Arsenal won’t splash the amount of money Monaco want them to, for Thomas Lemar. With Arsenal’s interest diverted to different players, it might be safe to say now that Arsenal have given up on signing Kylian Mbappe. Mbappe is likely to join Real Madrid this summer.
