Guardiola happy despite pre-season defeat to Dortmund

Pep Guardiola is happy with Manchester City’s performance despite losing their first pre-season game against Borussia Dortmund.

The Premier League champions seemed to be almost invincible last season, picking up an unprecedented 100 points and finishing 19 points ahead of nearest rivals Manchester United in table.

While Man City blew all of their rivals away last time out, it has been a frustrating summer for Pep Guardiola, who allowed transfer target Fred move to Manchester United as he favoured a move for Jorginho, only to see the Italian choose to move to Chelsea instead.

With only three weeks to go until the Premier League action gets under way, the only transfer business the Citizens have managed to pull off is the club record signing of Riyad Mahrez from Leicester City.

They Champions have jetted out to America to take part in the International Champions Cup, and got their pre-season action underway on Saturday night in Chicago, suffering a 1-0 defeat to Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund.

Despite the result, Pep Guardiola has insisted he was happy with his sides’ performance:

“We did many good things. It is really good for the future. We played against one of the best teams in Germany and we did many good things.

“We spoke in the week about courage, intensity and a desire to play. The players did very well and I am so satisfied with the performance of these guys.”
