Five top scoring strikers in Premier League history

With our beloved Premier League celebrating it’s 25th Birthday this month, we thought it would be the perfect time to check out the EPL’s top scoring strikers of all time …

Robbie Fowler – 163 goals

Local boy Robbie Fowler burst onto the scene as a fresh faced 18-year-old goal machine in the early nineties.

The Liverpool legend was one of the most naturally gifted finishers the Premier League has ever seen, and will be forever remembered for the sensational five minutes hat-trick he scored against Arsenal.

Fowler would leave Anfield in 2001 due to the emergence of Micheal Owen, and would go on to represent Leeds, Man City and Blackburn before calling time on his goal rich career in 2012.

Thierry Henry – 175 goals

Henry is arguably the Premier League’s greatest ever player. During his eight season’s with the Gunners he would light up English football with display’s full of pace, power, skill and no small amount of Gallic flair.

In full flow the brilliant France international was almost unplayable, and scored some of the greatest individual goals the Premier League has ever seen. Along with countrymen Patrick Vieira and Robert Pires, Henry was the key player in the legendary ”invincible,” side that went the entire 2003-2004 season unbeaten.

Andy Cole – 187 goals

Cole rose to prominence as part of Kevin Keegan’s hugely entertaining Newcastle side of the mid nineties. After demonstrating his lethal finishing ability and blistering pace for the Geordies, Man United boss Sir Alex Ferguson brought him to Old Trafford in 1995.

Cole would enjoy a hugely successful seven season’s as the Red Devil’s number nine, winning five Premier League titles and the Champions League. He would later go on to represent Blackburn, Fulham, Man City, Portsmouth and Sunderland.

Interestingly, Cole never took a penalty, and if he had he would probably be a lot higher on this list.

Wayne Rooney – 208 goals

Rooney is the only player on this list who is still playing. The former England captain captured the nation’s attention when he scored a wonder goal as a 16-year-old for Everton against Arsenal in 2002.

A move to Man United would soon follow and he would go on to become the club’s record goalscorer, and win five Premier League titles.

The fact that Rooney is also in the top five of all-time Premier League assist makers shows you just what a top all-round player he is, who will surely add a few more goals to his tally over the next few seasons.

Alan Shearer – 260 goals

Shearer is quite simply the King of Premier League goal scorers. King Al is he is known, was one of the deadliest finishers the game has ever seen.

Shearer was blessed with a hammer of a right foot, and a bloody single mindedness to score goals.

The former England international won the Premier League with Blackburn in 1993/94, before turning down a move to Man United in 1996 to instead join his home town club Newcastle.

Although his time at St.James Park would not see him win any trophies, he would go onto to become The Geordies all time leading goal scorer, and fulfil his life long dream of representing the club he supported as a boy.
