Five Players with most goals from outside the box in Premier League history

One of the beautiful games great pleasures is seeing a well struck long-range shot fly into the back of the old onion bag. With our beloved Premier League celebrating it’s 25th birthday this year we thought it would be the perfect time to check out which five players have the most goals from outside the box in EPL history.

Steven Gerrard – 33 goals

Gerrard was an inspirational figure that quite often used his sensational ability and desire to win, to almost single handedly drag his beloved Liverpool to victory.

There really wasn’t much the former Reds and England captain couldn’t do, but one area he did specialise in was smashing long range thunderbastard’s flying into the opposition’s net.

Gerrard was one of the greatest midfielders the English game has ever seen and just over a quarter of his 120 Premier League goals came from outside the box.

Alan Shearer – 33 goals

Shearer is the Premier League’s all-time leading scorer with 260 strikes to his name. The former Southampton, Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle striker was a devastating finisher, and as you can imagine had the ability to put the ball in the back of the net in almost every conceivable way.

Super Al as he was affectionally known had one of the truest strike of a football you will ever see, and his 33 long range strikes is a testament to this.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink – 33 goals

Former Holland international Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink was a beast of a striker, who had arguably the most powerful shot the Premier League has ever seen.

During spells with Leeds, Chelsea, Middlesbrough and Charlton the deadly hitman made a habit of almost busting the net with his lethal strikes.

We’ll let the video below show exactly what we mean, but let’s just say, when Jimmy hit them they stayed hit.

David Beckham – 34 goals

David Beckham is one of football’s most iconic figures. The former Manchester United midfielder was renowned for his supreme free-kick taking ability, which was honed by thousands of hours of practice, and as well as featuring high on this list he also has the most amount of goals directly from free-kicks in Premier League history.

In all honesty, Becks would probably be number one in this list had he not left English football at the age of 28 to join Spanish giants Real Madrid.

The former England captain was a part of the fabled Class of 92′ that formed the back bone of the superb Manchester United sides that dominated English football during the nineties and noughties. He may not have topped this list but we’re sure he can console himself with the six Premier League medals he picked up during his time at Old Trafford.

Frank Lampard – 41 goals

Lampard started out with West Ham before moving on to Chelsea were he enjoyed a hugely successful career, winning four Premier League titles.

The former England international was a central midfielder, but somehow managed to post numbers that even most elite level strikers would be jealous of.

Lampard is fourth in the list of all time Premier League goalscorer’s with 177 strikes to his name and is also fourth on the list of all time EPL assist makers with 102, which sums up what a top class all round player he was.

Interestingly, he would be one of the first to admit that he was not the most naturally talented of footballer’s, but through an immense determination to improve he managed to turn himself into one of the greatest players the Premier League has ever seen.

Lampard repetitively trained to improve his shooting ability, and all that hard work paid off, with his 42 goals from outside the box the highest in Premier League history.
