Done Deal: Man City complete Mahrez signing for club record fee

Manchester City have completed the signing of Riyad Mahrez from Leicester City for a club record £60 million.

City were in negotiations to sign the Algerian back in January, although they were forced to walk away from the deal with Leicester wanting in excess of £90 million, with the Citizens only willing to pay around £50m.

The 27-year-old handed in a transfer request but ultimately stayed at the King Power stadium, finishing the season with a tally of 12 league goals in 36 appearances, helping the Foxes to a ninth place finish in the Premier League.

The breakdown of his move to Manchester saw him going on strike, before later returning to training and admitting that he had “regrets” over the dispute.

However, six months on, Pep Guardiola finally has landed his man, securing a club record deal of around £60 million, where he will join the plethora of talent already at the Etihad.

Mahrez joined Leicester from French side Le Havre for £400,000 in 2014, and was named the PFA Players’ Player of the Year during what was the most incredible Premier League title win back in 2015/16.

Good signing by Man City. I just wonder how often he will play considering the wealth of talent at their disposal.
