Deal back on? Chelsea to make an improved bid for Dzeko

Will he? Won’t he? The saga surrounding the future of Edin Dzeko continues.

The Blues have been linked with the former Manchester City striker for several weeks after having being linked with a whole host of strikers already. Dzeko has always looked the most likely, as well as being the best option among those who have been linked, but reports earlier this week had claimed that the deal had collapsed.

However, with less than four days until the transfer deadline, reports suggest that Chelsea could be set to reignite their interest and make an improved offer for the Bosnian.

According to the Sunday Express, Chelsea are willing to pay Roma £50m for Dzeko, as well as his team mate Emerson Palmieri who has already agreed terms with the reigning Premier League champions.

However, the biggest sticking point could still be the players personal terms, with the 31-year-old only willing to move if he gets a two-and-a-half year deal, while Chelsea are only willing to offer an 18 months contract due to the player’s age. The club have a strict policy of only offering players over the age of 30 one year deals, something that Sky Sports claim make the deal ‘unlikely’.

If a deal cannot be secured, Chelsea could turn their attentions to Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud, who Arsene Wenger has confirmed can leave the club, providing the Gunners can themselves secure a replacement for the Frenchman.
