De Gea ‘increasingly frustrated’ with Manchester United contract progress

David De Gea is said to be becoming ‘increasingly frustrated’ as contract talks with Manchester United continue to stall.

The Spanish goalkeeper has been locked in contract negotiations to extend his stay at Manchester United for a number of months, with the 28-year-old believed to be demanding a pay increase that befits his status as one of the club’s finest players.

The former Atletico Madrid goalkeeper is thought to want a deal that matches the mammoth terms given to Alexis Sanchez when he joined United from Arsenal in 2018, and according to The Times, the lack of progress in the talks is making the ‘keeper ‘increasingly frustrated’.

However, the report claims that Ed Woodward has informed De Gea’s representatives that such a wage hike is ‘impossible’ with the Chilean thought to be earning close to £500,000-a-week.

De Gea, named in the PFA Team of the Year for four consecutive seasons, is believed to be happy to stay at Old Trafford but contract talks have stalled over his demands.

His current deal runs until 2020 after United recently took up their option to extend for a further year, with Real Madrid, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain all believed to be monitoring his situation.
